Balranald Cottage / 2 bedrooms / 2 bathrooms / sleeps 4

Balranald Cottage sleeps 4 guests with a double bedroom, en-suite shower room and a twin bedroom, with adjoining family bathroom.

The open-plan living room has windows looking out towards Balranald House, with a raised dining area with table and chairs for six, a spacious sitting area with a large sofa and a multi fuel fire.

Beyond the living room is a large south-facing sun room, with large windows providing a wonderful panorama of white sands, a huge marsh and wetland SSSI, traditional small-scale machair farming and the Balranald nature reserve.

We look for a minimum of a week stay commencing Saturday. However, if you do require a shorter stay then please contact us and we will do our best to accommodate.

There is a multi-fuel burning stove in the living room. Coal & wood can be purchased from Bayhead shop & Sollas Co-op.

Please note that there is a ‘Pay as you Go’ power meter installed at the cottage. There will be £80/wk on the meter on arrival which under normal usage is plenty.

  Wonderful, well converted old black house. Two foot thick walls to keep the weather at bay! It is very remote and facilities on North Uist are few and far between but this is its charm. From the sun lounge you can watch the bird life on the adjacent nature reserve. The house is warm (once you have mastered the storage heaters) , modern and comfortable. Great showers and a kitchen that has everything you will need. Proper Hebridean beaches are within walking distance as is a very interesting food wagon at Hougharry.

  What a fantastic spot! Not only was the location spectacular with white-tailed eagles flying past and walking distance to a white sanded beach, but also the cottage was lovely. Provided clean, cosy, great enclosed garden perfect for dogs.

  Stunning spot on North Uist which we would definitely book again. The cottage was a great space for Christmas as it had a cosy lounge which stayed nice and warm with the fire on with the additional ‘second lounge’ in the conservatory for games and great views! Two bathrooms is perfect for mixed families and the kitchen was super well equipped for making our surf and turf dinner and our Boxing Day roast! Scott was super responsive and helped me source a couple of lobsters too! Really nice chap and great cottage!

  I highly recommend Balranald Cottage. It is spacious, warm and very comfortable with everything you need (and more).The location is great, very peaceful and close to Balranald Nature Reserve and wonderful beaches. After long blustery walks it was great to return to this lovely cottage. We would very much like to return.We had good communication with Scott prior to our arrival. We didn’t need to contact Scott during our stay as he’d sent all the necessary information in advance.A wonderful place to stay.

  We had a fantastic stay at Scott’s place. We watched hen harriers and short eared owls from the cottage, and all over the island. it was great to be able to see all round from the sun room. Two young buzzards kept landing on the roof of the nearby house. Saw a corncrake up the road and saw a couple fly across the field, cuckoos on the way to the pub. Well worth going out on the Lady Anne, saw eagles (golden and white tailed), looked into a nest with chick, saw deer swimming, a heronry, seals, kestrel and peregrine. Lovely secluded beaches. Otters on the otter walk with RSPB. The cottage is spotless and very comfortable. Fantastic! Can’t wait to return.
