Property Description

Balranald Cottage / 2 bedrooms / 2 bathrooms / sleeps 4

Balranald Cottage sleeps 4 guests with a generous double bedroom and en-suite shower room and a twin bedroom, with adjoining family bathroom.

The extensive open-plan living room has windows looking out towards Balranald House, with a raised dining area with table and chairs for six, a spacious sitting area with a large sofa and a multi fuel fire.

Beyond the living room is a large south-facing sun room, with large windows providing a wonderful panorama of white sands, a huge marsh and wetland SSSI, traditional small-scale machair farming and the Balranald nature reserve.

We look for a minimum of a week stay commencing Saturday. However, if you do require a shorter stay then please contact me and we will do our best to accommodate.

There is a coal burning stove in the living room. However, if guests wish to use this we kindly ask you use smokeless fuel which can be bought from Bayhead shop/ Sollas Co-op.

Please note that there is a ‘Pay as you Go’ power meter installed at the cottage. There will be £50/wk on the meter on arrival which under normal usage is plenty!

A beautiful cottage right on the west coast of North Uist and located so close to some of the most dramatic beaches. The cottage was cosy and had everything possible I could have needed. Thank you again!

Fantastic location. Very close to the RSPB Balranald site. Lots of birdlife around; this time of year it was greylag geese flying overhead several times a day, and lots of starlings; also occasional calls of curlew and oystercatchers. The house is spacious and comfortable, and the conservatory room on the end of the house is a wonderful place to sit and watch the sunrise, sunset and the dramatic weather move in and across the grassland.

What an amazing place. The house is absolutely stunning and so comfy. Plenty of space and great facilities - I was with three 17-20 year olds and we had so much space we didn't fall over each other! Easy to get to and Scott is really helpful before and during stay. Lovely and isolated but yet close enough to amenities if required. Didn't want to leave !

Fantastic spacious house in a great location with great wildlife, empty beaches, surfing and kite surfing all close by. The house is well equipped and the views from the conservatory so good not even our 9 year old daughter turned on any of the large TVs for our whole stay. We saw Short Eared Owl, Hen Harrier and deer from the house, with the abundance of Meadow Pipits and Linets in the garden drawing in the Hen Harriers everyday. The sun sets over the RSBP reserve are spectacular.

Lovely home,. Great location for exploring the islands. Beach about 10/15 minute walk away, mostly all to yourself. Set on edge of RSPB reserve so sit back and watch the owl and hen harrier hunting across the land from the sun room. House is a really good size, bigger than expected. Scott is quick to respond to messages and helpful. Housekeeper nearby if you have any query while you are there. Loads of lovely beaches, history and wildlife. Local shop and fuel about a mile down the road. Great place to stay

Stunning location! We saw Hen Harriers, Short Eared Owls, a deer and a host of other birds and butterflies from the cottage. The conservatory was blissful on a summer evening. It was really hard to leave! We walked 10 minutes through the RSPB site to a beach which we had to ourselves. We swam and kayaked in the bay. The cottage is also close to a great pub which serves excellent seafood. The whole cottage is really well equipped and modern. A wonderful holiday, we will be back soon!
